Microsoft and Providence Health System launche Prov-GigaPath for whole-slide modeling in digital pathology

Partnerships
Product updates

  • Microsoft, in collaboration with Providence Health System and the University of Washington, has introduced Prov-GigaPath, an AI-powered digital pathology tool for cancer diagnostics, to overcome the drawbacks of existing computational pathology models.

  • The tool consists of an ML model claimed to be the result of one of the largest AI training efforts in real-world, whole-slide tissue analysis. It includes 1.3 billion pathology images derived from ~171,000 slides spanning 31 major tissue types, as well as radiology scans, genomics results, and patient health records provided by the healthcare system.

  • This initiative results from focused efforts to overcome the shortage of real-world data, the inability to incorporate whole-slide modeling, and the lack of accessibility.
