ByteDance subsidiary Pico Interactive will reportedly launch the Pico 4S VR headset, with potentially more RAM capacity than Meta's Quest 3.
As per publicly available benchmarks, the forthcoming Pico 4S is expected to use the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset, just like Meta Quest 3. However, it surpasses its competitor by purportedly offering more RAM, with a benchmark score revealing 12 GB of RAM, compared to the Quest 3’s 8 GB.
Other key features include two 2.05 GHz cores and four 2.36 GHz cores, even though Quest 3 leads in single-core and multi-core performance by 20% and 5%, respectively. Improved texture resolution could translate into improved on-device performance.
Analyst QuickTake: The rumor comes after the company launched its latest enterprise-focused G3 VR headset in April 2023 at ~USD 440. However, this was followed by the company laying off "thousands of employees" in November 2023 , given the failure to meet sales targets.
