Panasonic has implemented a five-year connected vehicle program in Utah, which is being further adopted by the state's transportation agency to install almost 500 roadside units (RSUs) on public vehicles for collecting and analyzing road mobility data.
Panasonic developed a Cirrus system, which collects and analyzes data from about 190 public vehicles, including small cars, trucks, city buses, and snowplows. Additionally, the system identifies potential problem areas and trends, transits signal optimization, and adjusts dynamic service based on the data received.
Furthermore, the system is claimed to be able to update snow-plow routes or change digital highway signs based on the assessed data.
