Automotive Cells Company (ACC), a joint venture between Stellantis, Mercedes-Benz, and TotalEnergies, has paused construction of its battery cell plants in Kaiserslautern and Termoli, Italy.
As per reports, the company is pausing construction to switch its battery focus from NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt) battery cells to more cost-effective battery technologies.
ACC has been planning three European battery cell plants. The first, in Billy-Berclau/Douvrin, France, opened in 2023. Meanwhile, the two factories in Kaiserslautern and Termoli were expected to be operational in 2025 and 2026.
