Trigo, an Israel-based computer vision startup, has partnered with Penny, a grocery chain operated by German retailer REWE Group, to open the retailer's first cashier-less store in Bucharest, Romania.
Customers can enter the store without registering at the store entrance, pick up their purchases, and complete the transaction at a self-checkout station. The items picked up by customers are tracked using in-store cameras. The stores will operate 24/7 and will be manned by staff to assist customers with their cashier-less purchases.
REWE currently offers automated store concepts in Germany and Lithuania. The latest cashier-less store was launched in Düsseldorf, Germany, in May 2024 in partnership with Trigo.
