Neste, Marubeni, and Resonac to produce bio-based chemicals in Japan

Partnerships

  • Neste, a Finnish company producing renewable feedstocks and fuels, has partnered with Marubeni, a Japanese trade and investment business conglomerate, and Resonac, a Japanese chemical company, to produce chemicals in Japan using Neste's bio-based feedstock.

  • The partnership aims to use Neste's bio-based feedstock, Neste RE, instead of fossil-based feedstock in producing plastics and other chemicals. Neste RE is made from 100% renewable raw materials, such as waste, residue oils, and fats, and can reduce greenhouse gas emissions when used to replace conventional fossil-based feedstocks like naphtha.

  • Analyst QuickTake: The partnership marks Neste’s second major tie-up with Japanese companies. In November 2023 , Neste partnered with Mistui Chemicals and Prime Polymer to bio-based food packaging. More recently, Neste and Eppendorf partnered to create a line of bio-based labware products in December 2023 .
