Distance Technologies, a developer of glasses-free XR applications, has raised USD 2.7 million in an oversubscribed pre-seed funding round led by FOV Ventures and Maki.vc, with additional participation from Business Finland and Foobar.vc.
While funding utilization remained undisclosed, it coincided with the company’s emergence from stealth. Further updates on the development of its tech will be released later in the year.
Distance Technologies offers an XR platform that turns any transparent surface into a mixed reality window built by the creators of Varjo’s XR headsets. It uses computer-generated 3D light fields to offer glasses-free immersion, backed by high per-pixel optical depth capability. Its tech is designed for integration into automotive and aeronautics systems, being evaluated by automotive OEMs for use in windows and windshields.
Analyst QuickTake: Glasses-free XR applications have been touted as a "holy grail" moment for the XR industry, given their ease of integration into a user's environment. While companies such as WayRay and Envisics develop AR heads-up displays (HUDs) for automotive applications, Distance seeks to take this further by tying in its tech with a range of AI models.
