Envisics operates a dynamic holographic platform that combines technologies like computer vision, machine learning, big data analytics, and navigation to develop its augmented reality head-up display (AR HUD) catering mainly to the automotive sector. With the use of custom silicon modulator designs and patented light-processing algorithms, its HUD enables the overlay of real-time information on dashboards to drivers with features such as mapping, navigation guidance, and hazard warnings.

According to its CEO, Jamieson Christmas, Envisics’ technology is unique because it electronically manipulates the speed of light to create holographic images in 3D, leading to better resolution, ultra-wide color, and the ability to create several images at multiple distances (2–100 meters) simultaneously. Envisics also claims that its product is 40% smaller and 50% more energy-efficient than conventional HUDs, which it argues is essential in the age of electric vehicles).

In June 2023, the company opened up an office in Germany and Japan to enable it to partner more closely with automakers and suppliers located in the respective regions.

Key customers and partnerships

In January 2021, it partnered with Panasonic Automotive Systems to jointly develop and commercialize a new generation of head-up displays for cars, trucks, and SUVs. Moreover, Envisics is working with car manufacturers to integrate its holographic technology in vehicles and initially focused on luxury market models such as Jaguar Land Rover. As of October 2020, it had installed its technology in 200,000 cars from Jaguar Land Rover.

Funding and financials

Envisics raised USD 50 million for its first tranche of its extended Series C funding in March 2023, in a round led by Hyundai Mobis. Additionally, the company raised an additional USD 50 million as the second tranche of this funding round in August 2023.

Funds were earmarked for product development and international expansion efforts.
