CoGo and ING launch carbon footprint insight feature for app users

Partnerships
Product updates

  • ING, a Netherlands-based banking and financial services provider, has introduced the Footprint Insight feature in its mobile banking app in collaboration with CoGo, a New Zealand-based personal carbon footprint management app. This new tool enables ING's private customers to track the CO2 emissions associated with their transactions and encourages more environmentally conscious spending habits.

  • Footprint Insight estimates CO2 emissions based on monthly spending across different categories, using specific emission factors for the Netherlands provided by CoGo. It extends ING's existing Insight tool in the app, which categorizes income and expenses, and helps users visualize the environmental impact of their financial decisions.

  • This feature was first piloted in July 2022, and 500,000 customers participated. Following the successful trial and positive customer feedback, ING decided to roll out the functionality to all private customers. Users can activate this feature directly from the app at their discretion.
