Axelera AI raises USD 68 million in Series B to expand AI chip offerings from Edge to cloud

Funding

  • Axelera AI, a Dutch manufacturer of AI semiconductor chips, raised USD 68 million in a Series B funding round, with participation from Invest-NL Deep Tech Fund, European Innovation Council Fund, Innovation Industries Strategic Partners Fund, Samsung Catalyst Fund, and existing investors.

  • The fresh funding will be used to expand into new markets and broaden product offerings from Edge to cloud data centers, focusing on GenAI, large language models, and high-performance compute use cases.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Recently, we have observed a surge of new chip releases focused on Edge AI. Chief among these were Edge AI accelerators from EdgeCortix and Hailo and an Edge GPT server from Kneron . Meanwhile, major silicon players like Intel and AMD have also made significant releases in this space. Intel introduced Edge-optimized CPUs and GPUs, along with the Agilex 5 Series FPGAs , while AMD unveiled its Versal adaptive SoC .
