Wakefern Food Corp, a retailer-owned cooperative, partnered with Instacart to introduce Instacart's smart shopping cart solution, Caper Car at ShopRite supermarket banner stores.
The partnership involves expanding the deployment of Instacart's Caper Carts at more ShopRite locations, providing customers an additional shopping option. Four ShopRite stores in the Philadelphia area have added the carts following the initial launch at a store in Hoboken, New Jersey, in May. Wakefern expects more member stores to adopt the technology over the next year, including a planned rollout at a new ShopRite store in Mount Kisco, New York in 2024.
Analyst QuickTake: Wakefern Food Corp is joining the growing trend of smart cart technology deployed at grocery and supermarket retail locations. Retailers such as Price Chopper ( June 2024 ) and Save Mart Companies (May 2024) also recently joined Instacart’s growing list of Caper Cart customers. Earlier this month, Amazon announced plans to equip all its Amazon Fresh grocery stores in the US with smart carts by the end of 2024.
