SpaceX, a space travel and launch company, is set to launch its second all-civilian private mission Polaris Dawn, on July 12, 2024. The Polaris Dawn mission was first announced in 2022, and the mission will also test for Starlink on its spacecraft.
The Polaris Dawn mission will include the first commercial spacewalk, researching human health in space, testing the spacecraft with Starlink WiFi, and reaching a high orbit of ~800 miles above Earth for five days. The mission will use the SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule to carry the four members who will also research the effects of radiation environments on human health as well as study decompression sickness.
Analyst QuickTake: The crew will wear SpaceX's new extravehicular activity (EVA) suits, which was revealed in May 2024 . The EVA suits are designed to be flexible and manageable while also protecting them from the vacuum of space where the crew would spend ~2 hours.
