NASA's Stennis Space Center and Sidus Space launch autonomous systems payload

Partnerships

  • NASA announced that its Stennis Space Center launched its autonomous systems payload aboard Sidus Space's small satellite "LizzieSat-1," or "LS-1" on July 2, 2024. Sidus Space was in charge of overseeing the LS-1's launch and satellite activation among other mission operations.

  • The payload system Autonomous Satellite Technology for Resilient Applications (ASTRA) aims to explore anomalies and form solutions so that it can demonstrate the autonomous operation of the LS-1 spacecraft.

  • The Stennis Center's director reported that ASTRA is operational, marking a key milestone for the Stennis Center's first-ever in-space mission. The NASA Stennis Autonomous Systems Laboratory (ASL) team has established a telemetry link to send and receive data in the ASTRA payload's operation command center.
