Dow, a leader in material sciences, has introduced NORDEL REN EPDM, a bio-derived variant of its ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber, at the German Rubber Conference 2024.
NORDEL REN EPDM is an EPDM rubber variant sourced from bio residues from other industries that can be utilized in a variety of applications, including automotive weather seals and hoses, building profiles, roofing membranes, and wire and cable components. NORDEL™ REN EPDM’s production incorporates an ISCC PLUS-certified mass balance system, ensuring accountability in tracking bio-based raw materials.
Dow claims the production process of NORDEL REN EPDM, which uses Dow's advanced molecular catalyst technology, results in 24% less energy consumption and a 39% lower carbon footprint than traditional processes.
Analyst QuickTake: Dow’s latest addition to its portfolio of sustainable industrial materials follows the March 2024 launch of two new forms of propylene glycol (PG) known as propylene glycol CIR and propylene glycol REN in North America. These products have applications in personal care, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food ingredients, flavorings, fragrances, agricultural, and industrial applications.
