Neste Corporation, a producer of sustainable fuels and renewable feedstock solutions for various polymers and chemicals industry uses, has formed a consortium to initiate a supply chain to produce more sustainable polyester fiber. Partners include Goldwin, the project owner, Mitsubishi Corporation, Chiyoda Corporation (all three from Japan), SK Geocentric (South Korea), Indorama Ventures (Thailand), and India Glycols (India).
The consortium expects to use renewable, bio-based resources, carbon capture, and utilization to make polyester fibers. This sustainable polyester fiber project will incorporate Neste’s Neste RE feedstock made from bio-based and recycled materials. Goldwin will use the resulting polyester to produce clothing sold under The North Face brand in Japan starting in July 2024.
