Pony.ai, a China- and US-based self-driving vehicle technology company, has received approval to demonstrate driverless robotaxis in Shanghai, China. This was announced at China's World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2024 (WAIC).
The permit allows Pony.ai to deploy unmanned robotaxi services in the Pudong district over a 205 km (~130 mi) route.
Analyst QuickTake: Pony.ai has previously received similar permits for autonomous operations in other major Chinese cities, including Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. This expansion allows the company to offer fully autonomous passenger services across China's four largest cities.
