Colorifix, a British startup that develops sustainable dyeing solutions, has partnered with Grupo Impetus Group, a workwear and sportswear manufacturer, and OceanSafe, a developer of synthetic fibers, to introduce a line of circular fabrics.
The companies expect to produce the fabric using Colorofix’s dyeing process, which uses DNA sequencing and engineered microorganisms to recreate naturally occurring colors created by animals, plants, or microbes. The collaboration will use OceanSafe’s PET replacement product naNea, which claims to be biodegradable by over 93% after 99 days in marine environments.
Analyst QuickTake: In May 2024 , Colorifix partnered with Italian shirting specialist Albini Group to develop the Exteria project, a pilot process for dyeing yarns with colors produced by bacteria engineered on an industrial scale. The latest partnerships sees the company’s technology expanded to fabrics.
