1PointFive, a DAC joint venture between Oxy Low Carbon Ventures and Rasheen Capital Management has partnered with Microsoft to sell 500,000 tons of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits over six years.
The agreement is the largest single purchase of CDR credits facilitated by DAC to date. The CDR credits for Microsoft will be enabled by 1PointFive's first industrial-scale DAC facility, STRATOS, currently under construction in Texas.
The captured CO2 will be safely stored through underground saline sequestration and not used for oil and gas production.
Analyst QuickTake: Earlier this year, Trafigura , a Singapore-based physical commodities trading company, agreed to purchase 50,0000 tons of CDR credits from 1PointFive's STRATOS DAC facility by 2030 for the First Movers Coalition, a global partnership to decarbonize carbon-intensive industries.
