1PointFive to sell 500,000 tons of DAC credits to Microsoft

Partnerships

  • 1PointFive, a DAC joint venture between Oxy Low Carbon Ventures and Rasheen Capital Management has partnered with Microsoft to sell 500,000 tons of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits over six years.

  • The agreement is the largest single purchase of CDR credits facilitated by DAC to date. The CDR credits for Microsoft will be enabled by 1PointFive's first industrial-scale DAC facility, STRATOS, currently under construction in Texas.

  • The captured CO2 will be safely stored through underground saline sequestration and not used for oil and gas production.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Earlier this year, Trafigura , a Singapore-based physical commodities trading company, agreed to purchase 50,0000 tons of CDR credits from 1PointFive's STRATOS DAC facility by 2030 for the First Movers Coalition, a global partnership to decarbonize carbon-intensive industries.
