Mycorena, a Swedish alternative protein producer, has filed for bankruptcy and plans to undergo restructuring under new ownership. The company holds several patents, trademarks, and other valuable assets that could provide lucrative opportunities for potential new owners in the field of alternative ingredients.
Magnus Löfving of Advokatfirman Lindahl KB was appointed trustee to manage Mycorena's bankruptcy procedures. This included evaluating the company's assets and seeking interested parties to bid for ownership to continue operations under new management.
Analyst QuickTake: As of July 2024, Mycorena had raised a total of USD 37.7 million in funding and even gained financial backing from the European Space Agency's Discovery Programme to develop methods for alternative protein production in space. Despite this, in June 2024 , the company discontinued its planned factory project for its principal mycoprotein ingredient, citing reduced investor interest in high-capital investment projects.
