Royal Mail, the UK postal service, partnered with UK-based drone-based delivery services provider Skyports and Argyll and Bute Council to conduct drone delivery trials in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. The trials are funded by a GBP 250,000 (~ USD 325,000) grant from the UK Government's Regulators' Pioneer Fund.
The trials involve using drones to transport mail between the remote Scottish islands of Islay and Jura in the Inner Hebrides.
Analyst QuickTake: This is not the first time Skyports and Royal Mail have partnered to launch drone-based delivery trials, further strengthening their collaborations. The duo first partnered in December 2020 to trial drones on the Isle of Mull, Scotland, then in May 2021 , when they trialed drone-based deliveries on the Isle of Scilly, UK, and in April 2023, for trials in Orkney, Scotland.
