Meta reportedly plans to launch multiple products in 2026: Two versions of the Meta Quest 4 and the company's first AR glasses, codenamed "Hypernova." Meta is also rumored to be working on a high-end headset codenamed "La Jolla" to compete with Apple's Vision Pro, scheduled for release in 2027.
Meta will offer standard and premium versions of the Quest 4 codenamed "Pismo Low" and "Pismo High," respectively. Additionally, reports suggest that the current design of its AR glass development may be too bulky for widespread consumer adoption. The glasses weigh 70 g and have a thick frame, reportedly leading eyewear manufacturer EssillorLuxottica to decline a partnership with Meta on this project.
The company is also rumored to introduce cost-cutting measures for its Reality Labs division, which could see a 20% cost reduction by 2026, given its low return on investment. Accordingly, Meta has also let go of a dozen directors and vice presidents in the division at the end of June.
Analyst QuickTake: The above news has seen a series of changes made to its previous 2027 XR roadmap ( March 2023 ), detailed by Meta executives in an internal presentation. This included an affordable XR headset codenamed “Ventura” to be launched in 2024, a smart glass paired with a neural interface smartwatch in 2025, and a pair of AR glasses in 2027.
