Windracers to test drone delivery services in Orkney

Geographic expansion

  • Windracers, a UK-based developer of autonomous drones, has launched a drone delivery trial in the remote islands of Orkney, Scotland. The trial will utilize Windracers' Ultra self-flying cargo aircraft and take place over the next two months.

  • The Ultra is a twin-engine fixed-wing aircraft with a 10-meter wingspan that can fly autonomously. During the trial, it will fly scheduled routes between Eday, Westray, and North Ronaldsay islands, covering approximately 2,000 km. The drone can carry payloads of up to 100 kg over a distance of 1,000 km.

  • Windracers has obtained regulatory approval from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to operate the drones in segregated airspace during the trial period.
