Climeworks, a Swiss direct air capture (DAC) startup, has entered a multi-year carbon removal agreement with Zürcher Kantonalbank, a Swiss bank.
As part of the partnership, Climeworks will remove around 1,750 tons of CO2 for Zürcher Kantonalbank, which cannot be reduced through the bank's operations. This collaboration is a key part of Zürcher Kantonalbank's net-zero strategy, which prioritizes emission reductions. The bank has been an investor in Climeworks since 2014, underscoring their long-standing partnership.
Analyst QuickTake: This partnership was announced on the heels of Climeworks unveiling its Generation 3 DAC technology, which offers breakthrough improvements in efficiency and performance for megaton-scale CO2 removal in June 2024. The new technology will first be deployed in Louisiana as part of the US Department of Energy's megaton-scale Project Cypress DAC Hub, with construction expected to begin in 2026.
