Rumin8, an Australian climate technology company, has received provisional registration from the New Zealand Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines (ACVM) for its first methane-reducing feed additive. The additive contains the active compound Tribromomethane (TBM), which has been shown to effectively reduce methane emissions in livestock.
Rumin8's technology involves solid feed and water-delivered formulations containing TBM, an organic compound derived from red seaweed. This provisional registration allows Rumin8 to conduct efficacy and safety studies on commercial animals in New Zealand to collect data for final approval.
Rumin8 claims that its innovative manufacturing process can synthesize and stabilize TBM in a scalable, repeatable, and cost-effective manner. The company is also pursuing regulatory approvals in the US and Brazil while collaborating with commercial and research partners in New Zealand.
