Universal Quantum develops ASIC chip for trapped-ion quantum computing

  • Universal Quantum, a company focused on developing scalable quantum computing solutions, has created the first commercial Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) chip for integration into its fully integrated Quantum Processing Units (iQPU). This chip is designed to enable trapped-ion quantum computing at the million-qubit scale.

  • The new ASIC chip includes built-in enablers for UQConnect and UQLogic technologies, facilitates efficient execution of quantum algorithms, solves the "wiring problem" common in quantum computing, operates at 70K temperature, and enhances quantum error correction. It also supports Universal Quantum's modular approach, utilizing high-quality trapped ion qubits controlled by UQLogic and connected via UQConnect.
