Ino Armor, a company that develops biomaterials, has introduced a bio-based, fully biodegradable substitute for bubble wrap, intended to be deployed across private equity firm SROA Capital's self-storage facilities in the US.
The packing material is made of natural silk cocoons encased in polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) bioplastic. The company reports the silken cocoons create a dome structure for impact absorption, while the PHA enables the material to compost in various environments, be it home composts or open seas.
Founded in 2019, Ino Armor develops solutions for the helmet, packaging, and eco-materials space. It develops a patented, bio-based, impact-resistant material composite that can be used as an alternative to synthetic foam to protect products, which is fully compostable.
