BASF, a leading chemical and material science company, is shifting its production to bio-based Ethyl Acrylate (EA), beginning in Q4 2024. The move is part of the company's larger goal of transforming its (Meth) Acrylate portfolio toward biotransformation.
The company has developed bio-based EA using bioethanol, primarily derived from European sources. The product is claimed to have a 40% bio content conforming to DIN EN 16640 while offering an approximately 30% reduction in product carbon footprint (PCF) compared to its fossil-based counterpart. Bio-based EA is also reported to align with the ISCC PLUS certification of remaining carbon content.
Claimed to possess identical chemical and technical specifications as its fossil-based variant, BASF will offer only bio-based Ethyl Acrylate from Q4 2024. The company also claims that the bioethanol used in the production process does not compete with food production.
