UK-based ClearBank, a banking-as-a-service (BaaS) infrastructure provider, has secured a credit institution license from the European Central Bank (ECB), under the supervision of De Nederlandsche Bank, to support its expansion into Europe.
The credit institution license will allow ClearBank to provide euro accounts and payments in addition to pounds sterling, with access to European payment rails, including TARGET2 (T2), SEPA Credit Transfer, and SEPA Instant Credit Transfer.
Rintse Zijlstra, CEO of ClearBank Europe, will lead the European expansion plan in providing banks with overhauls of technological infrastructure to meet compliance and regulatory needs arising from evolving banking regulations across Europe.
