Helion Energy, a fusion power company, has obtained a Large Broad Scope license from the Washington State Department of Health (DOH). This license allows Helion to possess and use necessary quantities of byproduct material to support the operation of Polaris, its 7th-generation fusion machine designed to demonstrate electricity production.
The license enables Helion to maintain high safety standards as it progresses toward commercializing fusion energy. The company is preparing to launch the world's first fusion power plant in Washington State by 2028.
Analyst QuickTake: This progression follows Helion Energy signing a power purchase agreement with Microsoft in May 2023 . Under this agreement, Microsoft intended to buy an undisclosed amount of power, which is expected to be generated by Helion’s first fusion plant.
