Nikola Motor Company (Nikola), a developer of heavy-duty battery-electric (BEV), fuel-cell electric (FCEV) trucks, has opened the first commercial hydrogen refueling station for heavy-duty vehicles in Ontario, Canada. The station, located in Etobicoke, ON, was launched in collaboration with ITD Industries and is accessible through the HYLA brand.
The station features a 700-bar pressure-fill system, allowing hydrogen fuel to be dispensed into onboard storage for long-range vehicles such as Nikola's hydrogen fuel cell electric Class 8 trucks. It is strategically situated near major highways, including Highway 401, Highway 427, and the Queen Elizabeth Highway (QEW).
Nikola and ITD Industries aim to build a comprehensive hydrogen infrastructure in North America, with plans to create a hydrogen fueling corridor connecting Windsor to Montreal.
Analyst QuickTake: This launch in Canada follows Nikola opening its first HYLA refueling station in Southern California in February 2024 . The station can refuel up to 40 hydrogen fuel cell electric Class 8 trucks daily. This project is part of a larger plan to provide up to 60 hydrogen refueling solutions in the future.
