Deep Sky to build world's first carbon removal innovation center in Canada

Geographic expansion

  • Deep Sky Labs, a Canadian carbon removal project developer, is constructing the world's first carbon removal innovation and commercialization center in Innisfail, Alberta. The 217,000 sq ft facility will be built on five acres of land in the new Southwest Industrial Park, with construction set to begin this month.

  • The USD 50 million project will have the capacity to capture 3,000 tons of CO2 per year or 30,000 tons over a 10-year period, using up to 10 different technologies. The facility is scheduled to be operational later in 2024, with potential expansions later.

  • Analyst QuickTake: In June 2024 , Deep Sky partnered with Equatic, an ocean carbon capture company, to begin construction of the first commercial-scale ocean-based carbon dioxide removal (CDR) plant in Quebec, Canada. The plant is expected to be capable of removing 109,500 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere annually while producing 3,600 tons of green hydrogen and is slated to be the world's largest ocean-based carbon removal facility.
