BeZero Carbon awards first AAA rating to Orca DAC project

Product updates

  • BeZero Carbon, a British company providing organizations with carbon data, analytics, and project ratings, has published its highest-ever rating for the first publicly assessed Direct Air Capture with Carbon Storage (DACCS) project.

  • BeZero awarded the first AAA rating to Climework's Orca project in Iceland. The rating indicates the highest likelihood of the project removing and safely storing a tonne of CO2 from the atmosphere. BeZero Carbon's platform independently reviews and rates carbon credit projects based on their effectiveness and likelihood of delivering promised carbon savings or removals.

  • Project Orca uses geothermal energy to power a process that captures CO2 from the atmosphere and stores it in rock formations. The project has been operational since 2021 and aims to remove 2,600 tonnes of CO2 equivalent annually.
