Desserto partners with H&M to sell products with cactus-based leather

Partnerships

  • Desserto, a Mexican cactus-based leather producer, announced a partnership with H&M, the Swedish multinational clothing retailer, to incorporate Desserto’s vegan leather material in H&M’s clothing under the new collection “Science Story.”

  • H&M will also offer products made with EVO by Fulgar (a bio-based yarn derived from castor oil) under the same collection. The products will be available from March 18th, 2021, and the collection will include jeans, shirts, tracksuits, and articles of clothing.

  • Desserto’s cactus-based vegan leather material was showcased in Italy in October 2019 following two years of research and development (R&D). The material can be produced in a range of colors, thicknesses, and textures and can be used in many applications across the handbag, footwear, apparel, and interiors markets. In September 2020, Desserto partnered with Sanabul to create cactus leather boxing gloves. In addition to Desserto, the developers Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez have also developed “Deserttex,” a cactus-based material targeting the automotive industry.
