Desserto, a Mexican cactus-based leather producer, announced a partnership with Karl Lagerfeld, the Paris-based luxury fashion brand, to incorporate Desserto’s vegan leather material in creating a vegan version of Karl Lagerfeld’s “K/Kushion” bag.
The company also announced a partnership with the fashion brand Fossil to use cactus leather in crafting its bag “Kier Tote.” Fossil plans to expand the use of Desserto to its men’s collection, which will be released in the fall of 2021.
Additionally, Desserto partnered with Dominic & Dempsey, a sustainable children’s footwear brand, to create leather boots for toddlers.
Desserto offers a cactus-based vegan leather material produced in a range of colors, thicknesses, and textures and can be used in many applications across the handbag, footwear, apparel, and interiors markets. The company had previously partnered with Sanabul, a martial arts and athletic fitness company, to create cactus leather boxing gloves; Clae, a Footwear producer, to manufacture sneakers; and H&M, the Swedish fashion retailer, for a sustainable clothing line. In addition to Desserto, the developers Adrian Lopez Velarde and Marte Cazarez have also developed “Deserttex,” a cactus-based material targeting the automotive industry.
