NeoCarbon, a German direct air capture (DAC) startup, has opened a new chemical laboratory in Berlin to develop and test sorbents used in its carbon capture retrofit technology.
The new facility will allow NeoCarbon to optimize sorbents for different conditions and scale production. This advancement positions the company to lead in developing scalable, effective DAC solutions, particularly for industries such as construction that require rapid decarbonization.
The new lab can test sorbent samples from one gram to one kilogram, evaluating efficiency, capture capacity, regeneration rate, and energy requirements.
Analyst QuickTake: The lab unveiling follows a EUR 3.2 million (USD ~3.5 million) seed funding round led by RAISE Seed For Good in December 2023 to deploy its DAC units at customer sites. The company recently partnered with UK-based Cool Planet Technologies, a provider of membrane-based capture solutions, to integrate its DAC technologies to advance its carbon capture capabilities further.
