LanzaTech, a Nasdaq-listed next-generation carbon transformation company, has signed a master license agreement with SEKISUI CHEMICAL, a Japanese plastics manufacturer, to build commercial-scale waste-to-ethanol facilities across Japan.
The partnership aims to convert municipal and industrial solid waste into ethanol using LanzaTech's bioprocessing platform. SEKISUI plans to build multiple facilities across Japan, with the first expected to produce 10–12 kilotons of ethanol annually.
Analyst QuickTake: This agreement builds on a decade-long collaboration between the two companies, following successful pilot and demonstration plants. In 2022 , the two companies announced the completion of a municipal solid waste (MSW) to ethanol demonstration plant in Kuji City, Japan, with a capacity to produce ~40 tons per annum.
