Greece has awarded contracts totaling EUR 53 million (~USD 59 million) to ICEYE, a Finnish provider of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite technologies, and OroraTech, a German provider of data platforms for wildfire detection and monitoring, to provide six Earth observation satellites as part of its National Microsatellite Programme.
ICEYE will supply two synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites and access to data from its 38-satellite SAR constellation. At the same time, OroraTech will provide four thermal infrared (TIR) satellites based on its FOREST-3 design. Both companies plan to open new facilities in Greece to support the project.
The partnership aims to enhance Greece's disaster response capabilities and drive innovation in its space sector. The satellites are expected to improve monitoring of key areas on land and sea under various conditions.
