May Mobility launches autonomous shuttles in Martinez with Contra Costa Transportation Authority

Partnerships

  • May Mobility, a developer of autonomous shuttle services, in partnership with the Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) launched PRESTO, a shared autonomous vehicle pilot in Martinez, California, aimed at improving healthcare access and community connectivity. The two companies initially announced the partnership in September 2023 .

  • The free service operates Monday to Friday, serving County Hospital patients from 2 pm–6 pm and the general public from 6 pm–10 pm. The service aims to connect residents with the County Hospital healthcare facilities and local pharmacies as well as other locations in the community including residential areas, shopping districts, and downtown Martinez. The fleet includes seven Toyota Sienna Autono-MaaS vehicles with its MPDM autonomous driving technology, including three wheelchair-accessible vehicles, and will have an attendant on board to assist passengers.

  • The pilot is launched in partnership with County Connection, a public transit agency operating fixed-route bus and ADA paratransit services for communities. The pilot program, funded by a US Department of Transportation grant, marks the third autonomous vehicle pilot program by CCTA.
