Brazil grants experimental flight authorization for EHang's eVTOL

Regulation/policy

  • EHang Holdings Limited, a leading Chinese autonomous aerial vehicle technology company, has received an Experimental Flight Authorization Certificate (CAVE) from Brazil's National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) for its pilotless EH216-S eVTOL aircraft.

  • EHang and its Brazillian partner Gohobby will conduct comprehensive test flights in Brazil, collaborating with ANAC and Brazil's Airspace Control Department (DECEA) to advance research on Concepts of Operations and Unmanned Aircraft Traffic Management systems.

  • Brazil and China have signed cooperation agreements in civil aviation, including revised airworthiness implementation procedures for mutual aircraft validation and a Cooperation Roadmap to promote new-technology aircraft certification. These cooperation agreements will support EHang's operations in Brazil, and the ANAC and China's Civil Aviation Administration (CAAC) are also discussing the regulatory model for certifying and operating EH216-S pilotless eVTOL in Brazil.

  • Analyst QuickTake: EHang's EH216-S eVTOL is making progress in its test flights . It launched its first demonstration flights in Saudi Arabia and Wencheng County in China. In July 2024 , it received approval for the Air Operator Certificate from the CAAC. EHang also delivered the first batch of 10 EH216-S units to Xishan Tourism in July 2024 .
