EVgo, the largest DC fast-charging station network operator, and General Motors (GM) are partnering to install 400 DC fast-charging stations in major metropolitan areas across the US.
The deployment includes flagship charging stations co-branded by EVgo and GM Energy, up to 20 charging stations per location. The stations will be deployed in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, New York, and Texas, with the first new chargers expected to open in 2025.
The new stations will feature advanced amenities such as 350 kW fast chargers, ample lighting, canopies, security cameras, and pull-through configurations for easier access, setting a new standard for charging infrastructure.
Analyst QuickTake: The initiative is part of a larger collaboration between GM and EVgo to build 2,850 DC fast-charging stations. The companies opened their 1,000th fast-charging stall in August 2023 and expect to reach 2,000 stalls by the end of 2024. This expansion addresses the current lack of convenient EV charging infrastructure, a barrier to widespread EV adoption. For user convenience, many of the new locations will be strategically placed near amenities such as shopping centers, restaurants, and coffee shops.
