Embark Trucks partners with several shippers and cargo haulers to test its autonomous technology

Funding

  • Embark Trucks, an autonomous truck manufacturer, has partnered with several shippers and cargo haulers, namely, AB InBev, Werner Enterprises, Mesilla Valley Transportation, and Bison Transport, to test its autonomous technology.

  • Through the program, Embark Trucks plans to finetune and scale its software and related services. This includes its flagship product, “Embark Driver,” a per-mile software license for autonomous navigation, and “Embark Guardian,” which provides remote vehicle monitoring, dispatching, and access to real-time data such as weather and construction.

  • Embark Trucks develops autonomous semi-trucks for freight and logistics purposes. Its trucks are currently developed with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Level 2 automation (i.e., vehicles can control both the speed and the steering but require a safety driver to oversee the operation). Last month the company unveiled Embark Universal Interface (EUI), a set of standardized self-driving components and interfaces necessary for truck original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to integrate autonomous technology into their vehicles. The company’s technology is reportedly being utilized by five Fortune 500 companies in the southwest US, including Amazon.
