Volvo Trucks North America partnered with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) to deliver 70 VNR Electric trucks under an air quality management project named "SWITCH-ON."
The USD 21.5 million "SWITCH-ON" project aims to improve air quality in Southern California by deploying zero-tailpipe-emission trucks for regional freight distribution and drayage. Seven participating fleets are involved in the project, which is expected to provide significant emission reduction benefits, including 152.63 tons of nitrogen oxides, 1.317 tons of PM2.5, and 53,160 tons of CO2 over the trucks' lifetime.
As part of the collaboration, Volvo Trucks will collect operational data on the trucks' performance in drayage and freight applications through 2025, while South Coast AQMD will lead data analysis efforts to evaluate emission reduction opportunities from battery electric trucks.
