Axiom Space, a human spaceflight services provider, partnered with Burjeel Holdings, a healthcare services provider in MENA, to conduct medical research and test new technologies in space.
The collaboration aims to send medical capabilities to space to study how microgravity affects biomarkers, drug quality, and remote health services. Axiom Space astronauts will wear and operate these technologies during their Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) launch next spring.
This partnership sets the foundation for long-term collaboration between the two companies, opening up microgravity research opportunities and supporting Burjeel's healthcare innovation ambitions, while also aligning with the UAE's vision for space exploration.
Analyst QuickTake: In August 2024 , Axiom Space postponed the Ax-4 mission from its planned launch in October 2024 to 2025 due to required interagency approval processes. In September 2024 , the company was reportedly facing financial struggles, unable to secure funding or make contract payments, and had implemented staff layoffs and voluntary pay cuts.
