Plus, an autonomous truck manufacturer, has received an order for 1,000 self-driving truck systems from Amazon.
The deal also gives Amazon the right to purchase preferred shares of Plus at around USD 0.47 per share, representing up to 20% of the company.
Plus develops autonomous technology for long-haul heavy-duty trucks. Its trucks come equipped with 360-degree sensor fusion technology for safe operations and algorithms to optimize fuel usage. The company plans to begin mass production this year and has reportedly secured more than 10,000 preorders for pilots with logistics providers in China and the US as of March 2021. Last month, the company announced plans to go public via a merger with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) at a valuation of USD 3.3 billion.
