Gridtential Energy, a next-generation battery startup, raised USD 12 million in convertible notes led by 1955 Capital, with participation from Silicon Valley Bank, August Capital co-founder David Marquardt, ReneSola CEO Yumin Liu, and existing investors East Penn Manufacturing, Crown Battery, and the Roda Group.
The round brings Gridtential’s total funding to USD 30 million. Gridtential Energy expects to use the proceeds to develop an in-house production line of advanced lead reference batteries, including the world's first factory-ready single-block 24V deep-cycle lead battery based on its patented Silicon Joule technology.
Founded in 2010, Gridtential is the creator of the advanced Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) battery technology, Silicon Joule. The company claims that Silicon Joule batteries charge up to two times faster, last more than four times longer, and weigh up to 30% less than conventional lead batteries. As of April 2021, 12 battery partners, including East Penn, Crown, Leoch, and several OEMs, are piloting the Silicon Joule technology.
