OpenAI partners with Hearst to include content from magazines and newspapers in AI products

Partnerships

  • OpenAI has partnered with Hearst, a media conglomerate, to include content from Hearst's magazines and newspapers in OpenAI's products.

  • The partnership allows OpenAI's products, such as ChatGPT and SearchGPT, to display content from over 20 Hearst magazine brands and more than 40 newspapers. Content will include appropriate citations and links to original Hearst sources.

  • Analyst QuickTake: This deal is part of a growing trend of media outlets partnering with AI companies, following similar agreements between OpenAI and other publishers like Condé Nast , Time , and News Corp . While some media companies are embracing partnerships with AI firms, others are taking legal action against AI companies for alleged copyright infringement, highlighting the complex relationship between traditional media and AI technology in the evolving digital landscape.
