Form Energy, a long-term energy storage startup, has been selected for an award negotiation of up to USD 150 million from the US Department of Energy's Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law's Battery Materials Processing and Battery Manufacturing program.
The funding will support Form Energy's Project RAPID, partially financing the installation and operation of a new manufacturing line at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, West Virginia. The project aims to achieve an annual production capacity of up to 20 GWh by 2027 and accelerate the hiring and training of up to 600 employees.
Form Energy's factory is located on a 55-acre site in West Virginia, formerly occupied by Weirton Steel Corporation. The company has completed the first phase of construction for its 550,000-square-foot facility and has begun trial production of its multi-day battery systems.
