Carbon Clean, a UK-based provider of modularized carbon capture solutions, BHP, an Australian mining company, and JSW Steel, an Indian steel producer, have signed an agreement to evaluate the implementation of carbon capture technology in the Indian steelmaking process.
The collaboration will assess the feasibility of Carbon Clean's CycloneCC modular technology to capture up to 100,000 tons of CO2 emissions per annum at JSW Steel's Vijayanagar plant.
The joint studies are expected to be completed by 2026, after which the parties will consider implementing the CycloneCC technology. If successful, JSW Steel plans to liquefy and sell the captured CO2 locally, potentially reducing the CO2 emission intensity of its steel production.
Analyst QuickTake : Earlier this month , Carbon Clean partnered with BCCK, a gas processing technology company, to provide carbon capture technology in the US. In August 2024 , the company partnered with Petronas, a Malaysian oil and gas company, to explore carbon capture solutions. Carbon Clean is also progressing with its CarbonX technology, which will be deployed at Ørsted’s FlagshipONE e-methanol plant, Europe’s largest project in this industry.
