Força Foods, a San Francisco-based food company focused on sustainable ingredients and water conservation, has launched MILKish, a watermelon seed milk. The product is available in original and vanilla flavors and is free from soy, nuts, and sugar, containing only 50 calories per serving.
MILKish is created with a base of watermelon seed and a hint of pea protein. The company claims it contains no carrageenan, artificial flavors, or colors and is smooth and creamy. It is suitable for cereal, baking, and drinks and can be consumed straight from the glass.
Força Foods, founded in 2021, plans to expand its watermelon seed product line to offer water-efficient options addressing water scarcity issues in agriculture. According to the company, watermelon seeds have a 99% lower water footprint than almonds and a lower carbon footprint than ingredients like soy and oats.
Analyst QuickTake: While soy, peas, and almonds still dominate ingredient lists for plant-based milk, some companies are moving toward unique alternatives to improve sustainability and make products allergen-friendly. NIÚKE Foods has launched QMILQ, a quinoa-based milk alternative while Veg of Lund is developing DUG, a plant-based milk from potatoes.
