Veg of Lund is a food innovator rooted in Professor Eva Tornberg’s research at Lund University that manufactures plant-based drinks free from lactose, gluten, added sugar, and soy. The startup owns two brands; My Foodie (which produces smoothies) and DUG. Veg of Lund went public in 2020 and is listed on Nasdaq's Nordic markets.
In 2021, DUG produced the world’s first ever potato-based plant milk. The alternative milk, created using a patented method of blending and emulsifying potatoes and rapeseed oil also contains pea protein, maltodextrin, chicory fibre, and natural flavourings enriched with vitamins D, B12, and folic acid. DUG comes in three flavours; Original, Barista, and Unsweetened. In October 2023 , the company was awarded patent approval covering the entire US market for its vegan potato emulsion used in DUG potato milk.
In May 2021, DUG debuted its range in Sweden and in the UK through Amazon. With further plans to expand internationally, DUG is currently available in Waitrose stores , online retailers including Ocado and Amazon, as well as some cafes. In September 2023 , the company expanded into Germany and Poland.
Key customers and partnerships
In August 2023 , the company partnered with Synergy Trading Corporation to introduce its potato-based plant milk (DUG) to the Japanese market. Further international expansions planned for Q1 2024 include Germany and China.
Funding and financials
In January 2024, the company raised SEK 1.75 million (~USD 167,539) through a loan agreement with the company's board members and existing shareholder, Svarta Tornet Invest AB, to strengthen its working capital.
